چکیده

The study focuses on structure-properties relationships in thermoplastic cassava starch (TPS) based biocomposites comprising 5–20 wt% of untreated and treated rice husk (RH). Alkaline treatment with 11% w/v NaOH removed the hemicellulose layer RH as confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), resulted a larger population –OH groups exposing fibril surface. Consequently, filler-matrix interactions between TPS were enhanced, although Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area indicated that was not increased. Interestingly, contained 20 showed substantially improved tensile strength factor 220% compared to neat TPS. biocomposite at 15 high water absorption. all contents biodegradation rate, while thermal stability TPS/treated slightly decreased. These novel composites promising properties for applications absorbents. • (TRH) possessed more OH than RH. TRH biocomposites. TPS/TRH higher absorption biodegradability TPS/untreated

Mechanical, thermal and structural properties of rice starch films reinforced with rice starch nanocrystals

A rice starch based film, reinforced with starch nanocrystals (prepared by submitting native granules of rice starch to acid hydrolysis at 40 oC) was prepared by casting film-solution on leveled trays. The influence of the content of starch nanocrystals (5 to 30%) on the mechanical, thermal and structural properties of rice starch films was investigated. The rice starch films showed an increase...

Properties of agave fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites

Biocomposites have attracted a great deal of interest in research and industry sectors because they are typically lightweight, sustainable, environmentally friendly, and their thermomechanical properties can be designed to fit specific applications by tuning of their composition. In this study, mechanical properties of natural-fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite films were explored. Thermo...

Physicochemical properties and digestibility of hydrothermally treated waxy rice starch.

Waxy rice starch was subjected to annealing (ANN) and heat-moisture treatment (HMT). These starches were also treated by a combination of ANN and HMT. The impact of single and dual modifications (ANN-HMT and HMT-ANN) on the molecular weight (M(w)), crystalline structure, thermal properties, and the digestibility were investigated. The relative crystallinity and short-range order on the granule ...

Filler Structure and Tensile Properties of Starch Xanthide - Reinforced Vulcanizates

Stress-strain behavior of some starch xanthideand carbon black-reinforced styrene-butadiene elastomers was investigated as a function of filler particle size and structure. In starch xanthide systems, low strain behavior is sensitive to particle structure; high strain behavior, to particle size. Electron photomicrographs of the several starch xanthide-reinforced vulcanizates were analyzed with ...

Marine Durability Characteristics of Rice Husk Ash-Modified Reinforced Concrete

This paper addresses the potential use of Rice Husk Ash (RHA) as a cementitious material in concrete mixes. RHA is produced from the burning of rice husk which is a byproduct of rice milling. The ash content is about 18-22% by weight of the rice husks. Research has shown that concrete made with RHA as a partial cement substitute to levels of 10% to 20% by weight of cement has superior performan...
